  LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION
The Buckeye Furnace Mining Company Lands Public Hunting Area is in Jackson County approximately 2 miles southeast of Wellston. The 1,034 public area is accessible on the north by State Route 124. The rest of the area is surrounded by private land. Please respect the rights of adjacent landowners and get permission to use their property. The penalty for hunting without permission can be a fine of up to $500 and 60 days in jail for the first offense.

The previously mined areas on the area are old spoil and gob that are revegetated with hardwood trees of various sizes. The terrain of these areas is very rugged and caution must be used.

HISTORY AND PURPOSE
The area will be open to use by sportsmen and nature enthusiasts for hunting, trapping, bird watching and other wildlife viewing, outdoor education, berry picking and hiking. Restricted activities include: driving motorized vehicles, camping, swimming, and littering. All users must have a valid license to hunt and fish.

FISH AND WILDLIFE
The major game species are white-tailed deer, ruffed grouse, turkey, and fox and gray squirrels.

Most of the ponds do not support fish populations.

HUNTING
The area should provide good hunting opportunities for deer, grouse, turkey, and squirrel.

PUBLIC USE FACILITIES
Access to the area is gained via a parking lot located off State Route 124, approximately one-half mile east of the State Route 327 and State Route 124 intersection.
